Postdoctoral Researcher Calcareous Nannoplankton, Funded : German Federal State of Hessen

The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a joint venture between the SenckenbergGesellschaftfuerNaturforschung, Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main, and additional partners. It is funded by the German Federal State of Hessen through the Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the Centre is to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change at the organism level. Project Area A “Evolution and Climate”, Prof. Dr. Jens O. Herrle (Paleontology and Biogeochemistry Group, Goethe-University Frankfurt), invites applications for the position of a
Postdoctoral Researcher “Calcareous Nannoplankton”
Project A1.14 [Ref. #A34a]
The successful applicant will investigate size and frequency patterns of Late Pleistocene calcareous nannoplankton species to record ecological and evolutionary implication of size changes in relation to climate change based on scanning electron microscope techniques. The institute offers ample opportunities to interact with researchers focusing on modeling, statistics, geochemistry, or social sciences approaches to studying the relationships between biodiversity and climate.
The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in (micro-)paleontology, biology, ecology or a related field, and have a strong background in some of the following areas: calcareous nannoplankton, evolutionary theory, paleoclimate and paleoceanography, phylogenetics, and biological oceanography. Postdoc experience is preferable, but not necessary. A solid publication record, good written and oral communication skills in English, the willingness to write research papers and research proposals, and work productively in a team are required.
We offer a competitive salary (TV-H E 13, a public service position in Germany), full benefits, and training opportunities at Goethe-University Frankfurt and international laboratories. The appointment is for 20 months starting (preferably) November 1st, 2012. An employment after June 2014 is generally aspired, but due to limited funding cannot be guaranteed at this point.
The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre advocates gender equality. Women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.
Please send your application by mail or preferably by e-mail attachment, mentioning the reference of this position (#A34a) and including a letter outlining your suitability for the post, a detailed CV, contact details of 2 referees and a copy of your Ph.D. thesis to: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. V. Mosbrugger, Scientific Coordinator Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre, Senckenberganlage 25, D-60325 Frankfurt am Main, Germany. E-mail to: recruiting@senckenberg.de.
